We grew up loving Vampire the Masquerade as a setting to tell incredible stories. We believe it is a unique canvas to explore themes of morality, corruption, the human condition, salvation, romance, politics, and personal horror.
We acknowledge the World of Darkness has problematic portrayals and stereotypes that still need solving in the latest edition and that other groups in the larp community have had issues with safe and consensual games using this setting.
Yet, we know that we can jointly tell impactful, memorable, and safe stories with the right mix of design, responsible players, high consent mechanics and safeguards, and a rules-light approach.
We believe the best way to do this is by creating a curated space with prescreened participants while still applying our usual safety mechanics of flagging, consent-based storytelling, and check-in system. Because of this, we've decided to initially only open this event for existing Journeys & Tales customers, collaboration partners, partners of Rachel J. Wilkinson, and other select invitees.
Should we not meet our intended number of participants after our initial offer, we may open up to other screened players.
J&T will certainly run other games open to everyone, just as we have in the past. However, for this setting, we believe a curated invite list is the best way to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for our players, staff, and designers.
